People can now text Metro Police about suspicious activity

Police are launching a program that lets community members report suspicious activity with the click of a button.

The program supports the See Something, Say Something initiative, an effort by the Department of Homeland Security encouraging people to report indicators of terrorism or terrorism-related crime, according to a Metro Police news release.

Residents who spot suspicious activity can send a text message to LVMPD80477 to report it, police said.

In emergencies, people should still call 911, the release said.

“Metro continues to evolve as technology becomes more a part of people’s everyday lives,” said Capt. Chris Jones of the Southern Nevada Counter-Terrorism Center. “People’s lives are busy and we want to make it easy for them to report this type of information.”

Officials also are developing an app to let people submit photos and videos to Metro, the release said.
