2nd Democratic Assembly candidate disqualified

A Democratic Nevada Assembly candidate has been declared ineligible for the Las Vegas-area seat he's seeking.

Judge Michael Villani ruled Wednesday that Jesse "Jake" Holder doesn't meet residency requirements for the District 10 seat. The only eligible candidate on the ballot now is Republican Shelly Shelton.

Holder told The Associated Press he meets the requirements, but the judge ruled against him automatically because he was late to court.

The seat previously belonged to Assemblyman Joe Hogan, who died earlier this month.

Holder is the second Democratic assembly candidate to be disqualified. Meghan Smith was declared ineligible amid allegations that she hadn't lived in the district for 30 days before filing to run.

Both candidates could still take the seat if their opponents garner fewer votes and the assembly appoints them.
