Palo Verde quarterback Graeson Vereen takes part in their first official practice Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014.

Graeson Vereen passed for three touchdowns for the Palo Verde High football team Thursday in a 27-12 victory against host Legacy.

Vereen had a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jamell Garcia-Williams, a 5-yard scoring strike on a shuffle pass to Jaren Cambell and a 23-yard touchdown to Isaac Woods.

Palo Verde (6-2 overall, 3-0 Southwest) also had two interceptions and a blocked a punt, including Jordan Bruner’s interception return for a touchdown.

Legacy’s biggest play came on a 70-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

“We need to be a lot more physical,” Palo Verde coach Darwin Rost said. “Legacy was physical. They brought it.”

Palo Verde next week hosts Bishop Gorman in the regular season finale in the Southwest championship game. Palo Verde in 2008 was the last Nevada school to beat five-time defending state champion Gorman.

“They are good in all three facets of the game,” Rost said of Gorman.
