While realignment of high schools into competitive athletic leagues is still a work in progress in Nevada, and lopsided scores are still too prevalent on some football Friday nights, officials got it right with football’s Division I-A Sunset League.

Entering the final week of the regular season tonight, four teams are tied for first place in the eight-team league with 4-2 records. Two others are still in the hunt with 3-3 records.

Spring Valley, playing in its first season in the lower classification, is the lone team guaranteed to play in next week’s playoffs. Others are rooting for the Grizzlies to beat Faith Lutheran tonight, which would open the door for Mojave and Clark to sneak into the playoffs.

For Cheyenne, Faith Lutheran and Sierra Vista, the scenario is simple: Win and they are in. Here are the playoff possibilities.

There’s also a logjam in the Division I-A Sunrise.

Moapa Valley is undefeated heading into the regular season finale at Chaparral, which has just one league defeat and is playing for a share of the Sunrise title. Desert Pines also has one defeat, meaning there could be a three-way tie after tonight.

We’ll keep everyone posted as scores become final, updating schedule pages with next week’s playoff matchups.
