Committee being formed to address ballooning jail costs

Citing a $28 million deficit at Clark County’s downtown jail, Metro Police officials this morning said the department needs help tackling the facility’s ballooning costs.

Metro Deputy Chief Todd Fasulo, who oversees jail operations, went before Clark County commissioners to announce plans for a committee to address the growing problem.

The panel, chaired by County Manager Don Burnette, will be formed by judges, prosecutors, public defenders and Metro officials.

Fasulo and Burnette told commissioners they plan to form the committee within four months.
