Inmate found dead from apparent suicide at Henderson jail is ID’d

Updated Monday, Oct. 20, 2014 | 4:54 p.m.

An inmate found dead from an apparent suicide at the Henderson Detention Center was on probation and could have faced four years in prison after his arrest last week on a driving under the influence charge in Boulder City.

The Clark County coroner identified the dead man on Monday as John Francis Mannion, 55, of Henderson.

Mannion was discovered unresponsive in his cell about 4:30 p.m. Sunday with a bed sheet around his neck, Henderson city officials said.

Officers began CPR immediately, and Henderson Fire Department paramedics arrived and continued CPR, but Mannion was unresponsive, officials said.

Boulder City Police Sgt. John Glenn says Mannion was arrested Thursday after driving erratically and crashing into roadside objects.

Attorney William Terry says he represented Mannion in felony methamphetamine possession cases that resulted in a three-year probation sentence in January.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
