A 37-year-old man involved in a downtown barricade situation this afternoon was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head, Metro Police said.

Police received a call about 1:10 p.m. of a domestic dispute between a husband and wife in a house in the 800 block of North 1st Street, near Main Street and Washington Avenue, police said.

Officers evacuated family members from the area, Lt. Sean Toman said.

Family reported the husband left the home and then went back inside, Officer Laura Meltzer said. They then heard what they believed to be at least one gunshot, she said.

Toman said an elderly man was also in the house and would not leave.

Police sent a robot into the house and eventually discovered the husband dead, Toman said.

SWAT and crisis negotiators were on the scene.

Surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution, Meltzer said.
