Millions of Americans breathed a sigh of relief and said “good riddance” when George W. Bush flew out of Washington, D.C., for the last time as president.
If things continue as they are proceeding, I think there are going to be millions of Americans with the same feelings when President Barack Obama flies out of Washington for the last time as president.
I don’t think either of these presidents was evil or had malevolent intentions. I do, however, think both these men were overmatched by the events that took place on their watch.
This world is as complex and as messed up as I have ever seen it.
I don’t know whether any man or woman is going to be up to the task as president in these troubled times.
