Man arrested in alleged mortgage lending fraud scheme

A Las Vegas man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a mortgage lending fraud scheme in which people paid large down payments for houses they never received, according to the Nevada Attorney General’s Office.

Jose Christian Delgado, 39, of Las Vegas and co-defendants Orlando Vera, 55, of Whittier, Calif., and Juan Robes, 35, of Las Vegas, allegedly operated the scheme under the business name Real Estate Development LLC between November 2012 and January 2014, the Attorney General’s Office said.

They solicited victims with poor or no credit to pay large sums of money — from $35,000 to $50,000 — as down payments for houses the company promised to sell them, officials said. The indictment alleges the victims never received the homes they thought they had purchased.

On Sept. 26, Vera, Delgado and Robles were charged by a grand jury with the following:

• Theft in the amount of $3,500 or more.

• Multiple transactions involving fraud and deceit in the course of enterprise or occupation.

• Mortgage lending fraud.

• Pattern of mortgage lending fraud.

• Conspiracy to commit mortgage lending fraud.

Delgado was arraigned on Thursday. He pleaded not guilty and his bail was set at $130,000. He was being held at the Clark County Detention Center.
