letter to the editor:

Airplane emissions and high-speed rail

It appears to me that most of the focus is on coal-fired plants and automobiles in the fight to reduce carbon emissions. Little mention is made about commercial airlines.

They use millions of aviation fuel each day, which spews tons of carbon dioxide into the sky. Military planes dump their excess fuel into the air before landing.

The public and Congress should be pushing for high-speed rail to reduce air travel. This would also reduce the use of gasoline.

The rights of way are there, and the technology exists.

The construction of these lines would create thousands of jobs.
