One of the UNLV football program’s top local recruiting targets has verbally committed to another school.

Las Vegas High running back Elias Miller committed this evening to BYU. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Miller picked BYU over offers from UNLV and Weber State. He also had recruiting interest from multiple regional schools.

Miller visited the Provo, Utah, school a few weeks ago for a game against Virginia and left impressed with everything about the program. He felt the same way this summer after attending the BYU camp.

"It was a white-out game with 50,000-plus. Just a great atmosphere," he said. "The coaches and players, they go out and play some real football. They are legit."

Miller, who runs a 4.4 second 40-yard dash, is ranked a two-star prospect by evaluating site Rivals.com. He has rushed for 289 yards and two touchdowns in four games this fall, and leads Las Vegas with three receiving touchdowns.

Miller, who also plays in the secondary, had 14 touchdowns last season. He was recruited to play running back.

"It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," he said. "I'm going to run with it."

Miller is the brother of Ray Smith, a top basketball prospect for the class of 2015 who is committed to Arizona.

Commitments are nonbinding until an athlete signs a national letter of intent. Signing day is in February. Miller joins Bishop Gorman's Nicco Fertitta (Notre Dame) and Alize Jones (UCLA), Arbor View's Malik Noshi (Northern Arizona), Liberty's Noah Jefferson (USC), Centennial's Zach Mays (Cornell) and Faith Lutheran's John Molchon (Boise State) as 2015 recruits to give verbal commitments.
