Driver in scooter fatality ID’d

A scooter driver killed in a five-vehicle crash Thursday morning has been identified as 38-year-old Claudia Bustamante, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Bustamante, a Las Vegas resident, stopped at the Sahara Avenue and Fremont Street intersection about 6:45 a.m. when a 2000 Honda Civic going south on Fremont Street ran a red light, Metro Police said.

The Civic was hit by a 2003 Toyota Camry going west on Sahara, which caused it to hit the rear of a 1996 Ford Explorer.

The Explorer spun and hit the 2013 TaoTao VIP motorized scooter and a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta.

Bustamante was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The woman driving the Honda Civic as well as a man and a woman in the Explorer suffered minor injuries and were taken to Sunrise, police said.

The Camry driver also suffered minor injuries.

Earlier in the week, an unrelated scooter collision on the Strip involving a pickup truck sent the scooter driver to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
