Fire does $25,000 in damage to Las Vegas duplex

A fire broke out in a west valley duplex this morning, causing about $25,000 damage, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials said.

A report was called in about 7:30 a.m. of smoke coming from the attic of the building at 8917 Torcello Drive, near South Fort Apache Road and West Charleston Boulevard, fire officials said.

Firefighters found what appeared to be a slow-burning fire in a wall between the garages of two units, officials said.

No injuries were reported.

One occupant was displaced because utilities were disconnected to fight the fire, officials said. Damage was contained to the wall, and the interiors of the units were not damaged.

The cause of the blaze could not be determined, but there was electrical wiring in the area where the fire started, officials said.

Electrical problems are the second leading cause of fires in Las Vegas, officials said.
