Bighorn sheep escapes from L.A. Zoo, struck by car

LOS ANGELES — Police say a bighorn sheep that escaped from the Los Angeles Zoo was struck by a driver who fled the scene.

Lt. Richard Parks said the bighorn got out of the zoo on Saturday and was struck by a car before officials could corral it.

Parks was not sure what condition the animal was in, but security personnel had detained it.

Parks says the driver left Griffith Park after the collision.

Parks was not sure how the animal got out of the zoo.

A zoo spokeswoman didn't immediately return a call seeking information.
