DMV office on Sahara closed because of power failure

Updated Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014 | 4:26 p.m.

The Department of Motor Vehicles office on East Sahara Avenue near Fremont Street was closed this afternoon because of electrical problems, a spokesman said.

The power went out about 1 p.m. throughout the office at 2701 E. Sahara Ave., DMV spokesman Kevin Malone said.

The main power cable going into the building was damaged, and NV Energy crews were working to repair it, he said.

The building will not reopen for the rest of the day, and employees were being sent home, Malone said.

Customers were being directed to other DMV locations and to the DMV website.

It is unclear whether the office will open Friday.

Malone said people who planned to visit the office can check the DMV website for updates.
