A Quick Stop loses slot machine license over stolen cigarettes

A food mart in Las Vegas, caught selling stolen cigarettes to customers, has agreed to have its state gaming license revoked.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board and Quick Stop Food Mart, owned 60 percent by Bharat Vasant Patel, filed a stipulation Tuesday in which the restricted slot machine license will be surrendered.

Patel did not admit to the allegations but says the charges filed could be proved by the board.

The stipulation will be presented to the parent state Gaming Commission Thursday for approval.

A merchant complained to Metro Police in November 2012 that cigarettes had been stolen from his business and were being sold at the Quick Stop Food Mart, 2083 E. Fremont St.

An undercover operation was conducted by police. Patel and two employees, Gita Patel and Puramjit Sing, were charged with felonies but later pleaded guilty to misdemeanors.

The gaming board then filed its complaint and the agreement was reached by the parties to have the restricted slot machine license revoked.
