Parts of the Las Vegas Valley saw temperatures below freezing this morning, making today the coldest since Groundhog Day on Feb. 2, according to the National Weather Service.

The cold wave predicted for Clark County over the weekend was worse than meteorologists expected.

Lows were forecast to hover around 45 degrees on Sunday and Monday but dipped as low as 30 degrees this morning in parts of the southern valley. Highs were expected around 65 degrees but barely scratched 60 degrees both days.

The 37 degrees recorded this morning at McCarran International Airport made it the coldest day since last winter:

Morning temperatures were even more brutal in the surrounding mountains, where the northeastern slope of Mt. Charleston experienced 18 degree temperatures.

To see where your neighborhood stacked up, the local weather service office tweeted this picture of temperatures in the valley as of 7 a.m.:

Chilly weather on Sunday prompted the weather service to issue a freeze warning for Las Vegas and a large part of the Mojave Desert. The warning expired about 8 a.m. today.

Tuesday is expected to see a high of 65 degrees and a low of 43 degrees.
