UNLV's Got (Don't Say) Talent

On this episode of UNLV's Got Talent, Rebels beat writer Taylor Bern tells colleagues Ray Brewer and Case Keefer why they need to stop using that word as the go-to for UNLV's basketball program.

As the Rebels prepare to travel to BYU this weekend for their first meeting since the Cougars left the Mountain West in 2011, UNLV announced today that the return trip has been postponed until 2016 or 2017.

UNLV and BYU had originally agreed to a home-and-home series, with UNLV traveling to BYU this year and the Cougars coming to Sam Boyd Stadium on Nov. 14, 2015. Earlier today, however, Missouri announced a game against BYU to be played on that same date at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. The Tigers also agreed to a trip to BYU in 2020.

“We were approached about postponing the BYU game … and we agreed to the change because it helps all sides,” UNLV Athletic Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy said in a statement. “Our schedule is loaded in 2015, including a great lineup at home, so pushing BYU back a bit helps bolster our future nonconference matchups.”

The Rebels’ 2015 nonconference schedule already features UCLA at home and trips to Michigan and Northern Illinois, plus with the Mountain West rotation, UNLV adds Colorado State and Boise State, two of the league’s top teams, to the schedule for the next two years.

Pushing the game back offers some schedule relief, as UNLV will fill that date with a Division I-AA opponent.
