letter to the editor:

Vegas lacks quality transportation

Las Vegas taxis routinely long haul customers and no one seems to care. When Uber drivers appeared on the scene recently, they were subject to Gestapo tactics, with their vehicles impounded.

As a resident, I can attest to the limited, expensive transportation choices available in Las Vegas. When I take a cab from my home near Aliante, it takes an hour for taxi service to arrive, if at all. If I schedule it in advance, they never show up.

A ride from the airport to my home costs about $100. It is cheaper for me to rent a car than hail a cab. Most metropolitan areas have airport suburban and limo services for around $40, which are not available here. I can’t understand why this area supports transportation monopolies that do not meet residents’ or visitors’ needs.

Uber or a similar service is exactly what this area needs to provide reasonably priced, quality transportation. There are a lot of good things about living in the valley; transportation services are not among them.
