A Spirit Airlines jet takes off from McCarran International Airport on Friday, Aug. 26, 2011.

Discount airliner Spirit Airlines says it will begin flying nonstop between Las Vegas and a small regional airport about 40 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The new route will fly into Arnold Palmer Regional Airport just outside Latrobe, Pennsylvania, starting April 16.

Spirit spokesman Paul Berry said Thursday the route is obvious for a company that lands in markets where fares are high and a profit can still be made by offering lower prices.

The route's one-way fares start at $93.

Spirit charges extra for carry-on luggage, checked bags and seat selection.

The airline flies daily from Latrobe to Florida via Fort Lauderdale and Orlando and seasonally to Fort Meyers and Tampa.

Spirit plans to launch a nonstop route between Las Vegas and Cleveland starting Feb. 5.
