Las Vegas mortgage fraud scammers will face prison

Two people who operated a mortgage fraud scam that duped victims out of more than $61,000 pleaded guilty Monday, according to the Attorney General's office.

Alex Soria, 68, and Sonia Rodis, 54, of Las Vegas, of BioGreen Teck, LLC, pleaded guilty to one count each of pattern of mortgage lending fraud. They both face three to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000, according to their plea agreements.

The pair will also have to pay restitution to victims, the agreements said.

According to a release from the office of Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto, the pair touted a “Zero Mortgage Program" from November 2009 to May 2010, asking victims to pay $1,043 to $6,800 to eliminate any mortgage obligations.

Victims, including some of Rodis' relatives, were told to file paperwork with the county recorder's office that the pair falsely insisted would eliminate the rights of lenders, the release said.

“It is unacceptable for individuals to prey on hurting homeowners," Masto said in the release. “My office will continue to prosecute these criminals to the fullest extent of the law."

Masto directed homeowners to Home Again, a homeowner relief program provided through her office to help struggling homeowners.

Soria and Rodis are scheduled to appear in Clark County District Court on March 9 for sentencing, the release said.
