A quick look at the money behind Brian Sandoval’s ‘New Nevada’

A big night at the polls has state Republicans celebrating a "New Nevada." The catchphrase was the theme of the Republican's election party at Red Rock Resort. It's also the name of Gov. Brian Sandoval's main political action committee, whose fundraising might powered many of tonight's Republican victories.

The PAC raised $1.4 million to support candidates this year, with large contributions from some of Nevada's top Republican donors. Sheldon Adelson personally gave $300,000. Steve Wynn gave $150,000 through Wynn Resorts.

Other large donations included $100,000 from Station Casinos, $100,000 from Ultimate Fighting Championship parent-company Zuffa LLC and $215,000 from other casinos.

The New Nevada PAC supported eight Republican candidates directly with donations of $5,000 to $10,000 each.

The biggest contributions, worth a total of $1.2 million, went to a different PAC, the Nevada Jobs Coalition. The Nevada Jobs Coalition went on to spend millions on advertising in support of Republican candidates.
