Arrest announced in deadly shooting at east valley apartment complex

A 31-year-old man is in custody, accused of shooting and killing a man today after an argument at an apartment complex in the east Las Vegas Valley.

Elekaua Brown is incarcerated on a single count of murder with a deadly weapon, according to a news release from Metro Police.

Police responded about 12:30 a.m. to reports of shots fired at the complex at 5100 E. Tropicana Ave., near Nellis Boulevard.

Moments before the shooting, several men had been seen arguing in the parking lot, Metro Officer Laura Meltzer said.

Officers arrived to find the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died, Meltzer said.

The identity of the victim, as well as the official cause of death, is pending and will be announced by the Clark County Coroner's Office.
