Updated Monday, May 12, 2014 | 12:33 p.m.

A swarm of teenagers reportedly went charging through crowds at the San Gennaro Feast grounds late Saturday, startling families and drawing the attention of Metro Police.

Event organizer Benny Deantoni said a ruckus apparently erupted at the carnival section of the event shortly before 11 p.m. About 200 teens were then seen scattering and running toward the exit, he said.

Metro spokesman Larry Hadfield said several fights broke out. Nobody was arrested, though one person was cited for an undisclosed offense.

Attendee Joe Vargas said he could see Metro officers detaining several teens, though police officials could not provide or confirm information about the incident on Sunday.

Chatter about the melee flooded Facebook and Twitter.

"I feel so bad for the families that go to San Gennaro to have a good time and end up being surrounded by a bunch of disrespectful teenagers," user @Miaadaniel tweeted.
