Steven Woodard is being sought in the Monday night slaying of an elderly man downtown. Woodward, shown in a photo taken in March, now has shorter hair. Anyone seeing him is asked to immediately call 911.

Metro Police are searching for a 43-year-old Las Vegas man they suspect in the slaying of his grandfather Monday night near downtown Las Vegas and in a separate attack on the suspect's father and father’s roommates.

Metro Officer Laura Metltzer said the suspect, Steven Woodard, was an escapee from an Oregon mental health facility and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Police discovered the deceased body about 6:50 a.m. while conducting a welfare check inside a home in the 2800 block of Florence Avenue, near Tropicana and Eastern avenues. The man appeared to have been killed Monday night, and detectives identified Woodard, 43, as a suspect, the news release said.

Woodard also is suspected in an attack on his father and father’s roommate in a residence in the 1400 block of Cottonwood Place, about six miles southeast of the homicide scene, near Charleston Boulevard and Maryland Parkway.

Woodard is described as a 6-foot, 175-pound white man with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen on foot in the area of Charleston Boulevard and Maryland Parkway.

Police urge anyone with information about Woodard to call 911 immediately.
