A 12-year-old boy who was riding a bike had to be taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a man suspected of driving inebriated hit the boy with his car Friday evening.

Just before 9 p.m. Javier Gonzalez-Valencia, 25, was driving south on Joyful Street near Spiritual Way and, according to witnesses interviewed by police, was swerving his Nissan Titan into parked cars on the west side of the street.

He continued after hitting a parked car, and then struck an adolescent boy riding his bike, knocking him to the ground. After hitting two more parked cars, the driver made a U-turn and fled the scene, according to the police report.

Police found the Nissan abandoned nearby, and Gonzalez-Valencia at his home a short time later.

He failed the field sobriety test and is being held at Clark County Detention Center with no bail on charges of driving under the influence and hit and run.

The child was transported to University Medical Center for his injuries.
