App of the Week:

Flight Board’s airport information always makes for soft landings

Flight Board

Flight Board is a phone app that tracks the arrivals and departures, and which gate the guest will be arriving at, for airports around the globe.

Editor’s note: There are more than 1 million apps available for download from Apple's App Store and a similar number of Android apps available on Google Play. Staff writer Brian Nordli weighs in on one of the applications he deems worthy of being the Sun’s App of the Week.

Phone App: Flight Board

Where can you find it: Apple’s App Store

Cost: Free

What is it: Las Vegas’ status as a destination city means frequent trips to McCarran International Airport for locals. Sure it can be great to see family, friends or former co-workers, but with the baton-armed guards whistling and waving for drivers to keep moving, timing the pickup can be a headache.

That’s where Flight Board comes in.

The free app tracks arrivals, departures and which gate the guest will be arriving at, simplifying the experience for the traveler or those picking up the arrivals. Users can search the flight board for the corresponding flight or input the flight number, time or airport to find it directly.

Flight Board users also can favorite airports they frequent and find out the latest weather conditions at the airport to see what may have an impact in the future.

The app is designed to make traveling easier, and for the Las Vegas local, perhaps save a hectic trip the airport to pick up that friend, family member or co-worker.
