Writers off base about Obama, GOP

I read the letters to the editor submitted by the 75- and 85-year-old gentlemen regarding their political views. Could we look forward to centenarians giving us an idea of what the days of President Woodrow Wilson were like in 1914?

I must take exception with the views of Malcolm Telloian in his Thursday letter, “Connecting the dots with Obama.” He asserts that in his lifetime, he has never seen anyone such as President Barack Obama purposely doing so much harm to this country.

Really? The Watergate Scandal under President Richard Nixon and the war of choice by President George W. Bush, which has cost the lives of more than 6,000 U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, don’t seem to be more horrendous? Especially when the events of 9/11 were evident? Were these simply a lapse in memory?

I believe the obstruction by the GOP-led House of Representatives to stop any progress aimed at helping the American public is shameful. No amount of social budget cuts will appease them. And then to assert that the GOP controlling all of Congress would solve the nation’s problems is necessary? This would be a disaster!

Finally, sanctions are the harshest punishment for President Vladimir Putin and Russia over Crimea by the U.S. and its allies. Keep in mind each side still possesses ample nuclear warheads, which could lead to World War III.
