letter to the editor:

Show more respect to our president

In my 75 years, I’ve seen many presidents come and go, but I have never seen such disrespect and disdain for the leader of the free world coming not only from political pundits but from our elected representatives.

They call President Barack Obama a communist, socialist or Nazi, and they say Vladimir Putin is an ideal leader: one who takes what he wants and damns those who object.

People claiming to be patriotic citizens demeaning our president on the world stage is not only shameful, it’s inexcusable; it diminishes not only him but our entire country.

We’ve seen an unprecedented number of filibusters in the Senate designed to block policies and appointments form taking effect.

The House has passed no meaningful legislation for nearly two years for fear President Obama might make political gains.

No, Obama is not a perfect president, nor have we ever had one and I dare say we probably never will, but he does have the right to demand the respect his office deserves.

It’s about time Americans separate fact from fiction, make a distinction between punditry and actual news, and pay attention to what’s really going on in Washington and the world instead of listening to opinions coming from political analysts amid the 24-hour news cycle..

Obviously, these newscasters have no idea that their words are heard around the world and do influence world opinion, not only of President Obama but of the absurd idea that America is weak.
