Dog dies in apartment fire near UNLV campus

A small dog died in an apartment fire late Thursday in the area of Maryland Parkway and Flamingo Road, just north of the UNLV campus, Clark County Fire Department officials said.

No people were injured, but 11 residents were displaced from four apartment units, officials said.

Firefighters responded at 11:30 p.m. to the blaze at 1161 Maryland Circle and found fire coming from a second-floor unit and threatening surrounding apartments, officials said.

Occupants of nearby apartments were evacuated. It took less than 10 minutes for firefighters to extinguish the fire.

The fire badly damaged one apartment and two other units sustained water and smoke damage.
