Veteran journalist Mitch Fox, the longtime host and producer of “Nevada Week in Review,” has been named head spokesman for North Las Vegas.

Fox, who has spent the past 35 years covering Nevada politics, is now director of the city’s communications department, Interim City Manager Jeff Buchanan announced today.

"Mitch Fox brings a wealth of knowledge and years of experience to the city," Mayor John Lee said in a prepared statement. "His standing in our community and impeccable reputation will serve us well, and further demonstrates the high level of talent our new team is attracting."

His last episode on "Week in Review" was Friday. Fox has been credited with making Vegas PBS a go-to source for political debates and coverage.

He moderated the high-profile debate between U.S. Senate candidates Sen. Harry Reid and Sharron Angle in 2010 and is credited with producing the regional Emmy-nominated documentary series on nuclear waste “Real to Reel.”
