Shooting

Metro Police have identified a man whom officers shot and critically wounded Tuesday night.

Jason Mahe, 29, was the second person shot by Metro officers in as many days.

In a prepared statement, police said Mahe tried to pass counterfeit money at a 7-Eleven store near North Rancho Road and Vegas Drive about 11:30 p.m. and then fled to nearby Dotty’s casino, where three officers caught up to him. Mahe allegedly pulled out a gun and refused to drop it when police instructed him to do so.

The officers then shot at Mahe, striking him several times. He was rushed to University Medical Center in critical condition.

Mahe was wanted in Ohio for a parole violation. He was booked inside the hospital for the fugitive warrant; local charges are pending.

The identity of the officers involved in the shooting won’t be released for at least another day, Metro officials said.

Capt. Csaba Maczala of Metro’s robbery and homicide bureau said the suspect had “tendencies for suicide by cop.”
