The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman whom police said they shot and killed after interrupting a break-in and attack early Wednesday at a south Las Vegas extended-stay apartment.

Mimi Diane Goldberg, 49, Las Vegas, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds, the Coroner’s Office said. The coroner listed the manner of death as homicide.

Authorities received a call shortly after midnight Wednesday about a woman with a knife at Manor Suites, 7230 Las Vegas Blvd. South, near East Warm Springs Road.

Metro Police Deputy Chief Kirk Primas said the two responding officers saw a woman on a second-story balcony slashing a screen with a knife and trying to get into one of the apartments. The woman ignored the officers' commands to stop, he said.

As the officers approached, the woman got inside through the window. When the officers got to the apartment, they saw the suspect hovering over another woman, stabbing her with a knife, Primas said.

One of the officers shot the intruder several times, Primas said. She was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

Officers said the woman who was attacked suffered superficial stab wounds. Three children in the apartment were not injured.

Friday afternoon, Metro identified Officer Sergio MPhillips, an eight-year veteran of the force, as the officer who fired on Goldberg. MPhillips has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of the incident.
