Pedestrian hit by taxi near Las Vegas Strip critically injured

A pedestrian was hit by a taxicab and critically injured early today near the Las Vegas Strip, Metro Police said.

The accident happened at 1:56 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Tropicana Avenue, near Las Vegas Boulevard, police said.

The male pedestrian had climbed over a 4-foot barrier alongside Tropicana Avenue and attempted to cross the road, police said. A Yellow Cab taxi, driven by a 52-year-old man, was traveling east on Tropicana Avenue when it hit the pedestrian, police said.

The victim, who was outside of a designated crosswalk, suffered critical injuries and was transported to University Medical Center, police said.

The taxi driver and his passenger were not injured, police said.

Police are trying to determine the identity of the pedestrian.
