A couch set ablaze today in an alley near downtown Las Vegas caused a fire at two vacant apartment buildings, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

Firefighters responded about 11:20 a.m. to the fire in the alley behind 1815 E. Charleston Blvd., near Bruce Street. Flames spread from the couch to a tree and then to apartment buildings at 1816 and 1820 E. Lewis Ave., Szymanski said in posts to Twitter.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. No one was injured.

Szymanski’s tweets indicated arson may be the cause of the fire.

The fire is under investigation.
