las vegas 51s:

51s score twice in the ninth to rally past Nashville

Cory Vaughn’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth inning today scored Travis d’Arnaud with the winning run for the Las Vegas 51s in an 8-7 victory against visiting Nashville.

The 51s scored twice in the ninth to salvage the victory, bouncing back after surrendering four runs in the final two innings that erased an early five-run lead.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis started the ninth-inning rally with a leadoff single, d’Arnaud reached on a fielder’s choice and Cesar Puello tied the game with a double. After Brandon Allen was intentionally walked to load the bases, Vaughn scorched a line-drive to center to score the winning run.

Early, it didn’t appear the 51s were going to need a late-inning comeback. They scored four times in the first inning, using a solo home run from Daniel Muno and three-run home run from Allen for a quick lead.

Nashville scored three times in the eighth inning to tie the game at six, and used a solo home run in the top of the ninth from Hunter Morris for a 7-6 advantage.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
