Shortstop just misses cycle as 51s win in Colorado Springs

The Las Vegas 51s romped the Colorado Sky Sox 9-3 Tuesday night on the road behind a big night from shortstop Omar Quintanilla, who fell one hit short of the cycle.

And it wasn’t the hit anyone would expect. Quintanilla had recorded a homerun, triple and double through seven innings.

He came to the plate for a fifth time in the ninth inning, but grounded out instead of notching a base hit to capture the elusive achievement. Quintanilla finished 3-for-5 with two runs and five RBI.

His homerun came in the second inning, a three-run shot to put Las Vegas up 4-0. Starter Giancarlo Alvarado picked up the win for the 51s after pitching six innings and giving up two runs.

The 51s are a week away, and six road games, from returning to Cashman Field next Tuesday to start a series with the Nashville Sounds.
