‘Gun-free zones’ offer false security

As a responsible gun owner and NRA member, I felt the need to respond to another misinformed liberal and his misguided view on guns in the letter “Gun violence and our sad society,” in Sunday’s newspaper.

First of all, why would the head of the NRA be happy about the UC Santa Barbara shootings and stabbings? It’s a tragedy. The people who are happy are the liberal press and the progressive anti-gun liberals who will exploit this incident to promote their anti-Second Amendment agenda.

Have you noticed that the majority of these mass shootings occur in “ gun-free zones” such as high schools, colleges and, yes, even military bases like Fort Hood? Our liberal anti-gun progressive politicians have created these “gun-free zones” in a misguided attempt to lessen these mass shootings. All they have done is instill a false sense of security. Have you ever seen a mass shooter go into a police station to carry out his nefarious plan? He knows better.

An armed society is a polite society.
