Man fatally shot after stabbing officer, Henderson Police say

Updated Tuesday, July 29, 2014 | 8:36 a.m.

Henderson police shot and killed a man early Tuesday after he stabbed an officer, authorities said.

Two officers had stopped a suspicious person who was riding a bike on Horizon Drive near Boulder Highway about 3:30 a.m. when the incident took place, Henderson spokeswoman Kathleen Richards said.

The officers were talking with the man when he became belligerent, Richards said.

The man took out a knife, stabbed one of the officers and was then shot to death, she said. Details of the incident are still unclear, and it's unknown whether one or both officers fired their weapons, Richards said.

The officer was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center and was in stable condition, Richards said. The officer was expected to be released from the hospital this morning, she said.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
