FEC filing: pro-Cochran PAC funded black outreach

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A super PAC backing Republican Sen. Thad Cochran's re-election bid was the sole source of money for a separate effort to urge black voters to support the incumbent.

Mississippi Conservatives is a pro-Cochran super PAC and was the only donor to All Citizens for Mississippi, a group that ran ads in black newspapers and helped turn out black voters in a two-man runoff. That's according to finance reports.

Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour backed the Cochran super PAC.

McDaniel is expected to announce Wednesday whether he will file a formal challenge of his loss.

McDaniel says he believes there might have been thousands of improper votes cast but he has not released proof. The Cochran camp says there might have been improper votes, but not enough to overturn the election.
