215 Beltway in Henderson reopens after predawn crash

Updated Tuesday, July 15, 2014 | 10:02 a.m.

Wreck closes eastbound 215 Beltway

The 215 Beltway near Stephanie Street has been reopened after a semi truck crashed early today and spilled diesel fuel over the roadway.

Westbound traffic was unaffected, but eastbound traffic was detoured at Stephanie for about four hours, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremie Elliott said. By 10 a.m., Regional Transportation Commission cameras showed traffic in the area flowing freely.

The accident happened around 4:30 a.m. just east of the Stephanie Street exit, Elliott said. The semi was traveling eastbound when it crashed into the concrete median and jackknifed across three lanes of traffic, breaching its fuel tank and spilling about 100 gallons of fuel onto the road.

Debris was thrown into the westbound lanes, where it caused two minor accidents. Two cars crashed into each other in the eastbound lanes trying to avoid the wreck, while another semi truck escaped off the road and into the gravel. No injuries were reported, Elliott said, and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
