Man, pet dog flee to garage roof to escape blaze in NW Las Vegas

House fire

Three people were displaced from their residence Sunday morning after careless smoking sparked a fire, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue reported.

At 2:36 a.m., Las Vegas firefighters arrived at 4901 Vega Lane to see smoke and flames come from the upstairs window of the two-story house.

One occupant had taken a pet dog to the roof of the garage to escape the flames. Both the man and dog were uninjured when firefighters brought them down with a ladder.

Firefighters were able to put out the blaze within a few minutes of entering the house.

The fire was confined to the bedroom but caused heat and smoke damage on the second floor of the home. Damage was estimated at $20,000.

Fire investigators have determined the cause was accidental.

The three displaced adults are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

No Injuries were reported.
