GREENVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky State Police trooper has confirmed that nine people are assumed dead in a blaze at a home in western Kentucky and two others were injured.
Trooper Stu Recke says an adult and child escaped the blaze about 2 a.m. CST Thursday in the Depoy community in Muhlenberg County. Recke says all 11 people inside the house were members of the same family.
Recke didn't have names or exact ages but says the children ranged from teenagers to a toddler.
Recke says the adult told first responders that the rest of the family remained inside the house.
Trooper Paul Blanton says the remains of six people were recovered by mid-morning and investigators were combing the house for others as well working to determine the cause of the fire.
