SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities at South Lake Tahoe suspect a fire that destroyed a home Wednesday night was deliberately set.
South Lake Tahoe police detectives say they have launched a criminal investigation in concert with area arson investigators at the west-side home on Long Avenue where firefighters were called about 6:10 p.m. Wednesday.
The Lake Tahoe News reports no one was living in the modified A-frame because burst water pipes were being repaired. Losses are estimated in excess of $300,000.
Police say officers were called to the home earlier in the day to respond to a report of someone forcing their way in. It appeared someone had slept there, but no suspect was found.
The flames spread to nearby trees but fire crews were able to keep them from reaching any other structures.
