MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A judge has sentenced a Wisconsin father convicted of keeping his teenage daughter in the basement and starving her down to 68 pounds to 5 years in prison.
The girl told investigators in February 2012 she had spent most of the previous five years confined to the basement and was denied food. She said her stepmother beat her and her stepbrother sexually assaulted her.
A jury convicted the 42-year-old father of child abuse and other charges in November. A separate jury found him guilty of felony child neglect in March.
The Associated Press generally does not name potential victims of sexual assault and isn't naming anyone in the family to avoid identifying the girl.
