2 Toledo firefighters killed in building fire

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say two firefighters battling a blaze at an apartment complex near downtown Toledo have been killed.

Lucas County deputy coroner Dr. Maneesha Pandey tells the Toledo Blade ( ) that two firefighter fatalities were reported to the office Sunday evening.

The fire department was expected to hold a news conference Sunday night to release more details on the fatal blaze.

A battalion chief on the scene of the fire around 3:30 p.m. in a six-unit apartment building on Magnolia Street near the Huron Market tells WTOL-TV that the firefighters were attacking the blaze when they became disoriented.

The firefighters were taken to Mercy St .Vincent Medical Center, and a large crowd of Toledo Fire Department personnel gathered.
