3.4 magnitude earthquake reported near Mesquite

MESQUITE — Police in Mesquite say no damage resulted and no one reported feeling an earthquake that scientists say rumbled beneath the desert about 21 miles southeast of the resort city on the Nevada-Arizona state line.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 3.4 magnitude temblor at 8:08 a.m. Friday in a remote part of the Arizona Strip north of the Colorado River and southeast of Interstate 15.

The epicenter was put about 40 miles southwest of Saint George, Utah, 70 miles northeast of Las Vegas and nearly 240 miles northwest of Phoenix.
