Two Nevada prisoners are on the run after walking away from an assignment along a highway in Reno Wednesday afternoon.

Dustin Cottiero and Corey Gomez were working with the Nevada Division of Forestry along Interstate 80 and McCarran Boulevard when they escaped about 2:10 p.m.

The Nevada Highway Patrol and the Reno and Sparks police departments are helping the Nevada Department of Corrections search for the inmates.

Cottiero, 23, was sentenced to as many as three years in prison for attempted burglary in a case from Washoe County. He’d been behind bars since September.

Gomez, 26, was behind bars since July for burglary and resisting a public officer in Clark County. He was serving a sentence of up to eight years.

Both inmates were assigned to the Stewart Conservation Camp in Carson City.
