Regarding the Dec. 28 letter to the editor, “Conservatives are wrong on economy”:
President Barack Obama is in no way responsible for every ailment the country has, but he is responsible for his fair share.
This year, the U.S. Treasury took in records amount of money. We still spent record amounts; none of Obama’s predecessors spent more money faster than he has.
When George W. Bush left office after two terms, the national debt was $10.6 trillion. President Obama hasn’t even begun his sixth year in office, and the national debt is over $17 trillion.
What many don’t seem to understand on health care is that as long as our borders are not secure, immigrants will continue to pour in illegally, so hospitals such as UMC will continue to run in the red forever.
I don’t know if “austerity is grand,” but I do know that the way we are spending money we don’t have, we are going to find out.
