Kennedy says she can’t remember wild NY drive

Updated Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014 | 11:05 p.m.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — Kerry Kennedy says an accidentally ingested sleeping pill overtook her senses without warning. And that led to a wild drive on an interstate highway in New York — a drive she cannot recall.

Kennedy testified Wednesday at her drugged-driving trial. Final witnesses and possibly closing arguments are expected Thursday.

The ex-wife of Gov. Andrew Cuomo and daughter of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy says she remembers driving toward Interstate 684 on July 13, 2012. But she doesn't remember swerving into a tractor-trailer and blowing a tire.

The prosecution argues that even if Kennedy took the sleeping pill accidentally, she violated the law by continuing to drive as she felt it taking effect.

But Kennedy says she never felt her driving had been affected and would have pulled over if she had.
